Cost

Common concern. The minimum wage for Indonesian and Filipino maids are higher now (if you want a more affordable maid you can source for Myammar maid for example).

Expectations

Ask yourself what are your expectations, for example:

- She must have a good command of English

- Child care experience

Background

- Is she married (It is important as it might be a distraction; e.g. miss her husband and kids, want to go back)

- Is she the only child (Her responsibility will be higher; e.g. if her parents are hospitalised, she might need to go back)

Illnesses

Diseases, even if its minor like chronic cough, should be taken note of, especially if you have children in the house.

Experience

If the maid has worked in Singapore before, you can use your Singpass and login to Ministry of Manpower website to check a maid's employment history.

For transferred maid

Do not be afraid to ask what happened, this is very important so as to check her character.
